Pet Dreams Pet Bed Review

I received a pet bed in the bumper style from Pet Dreams and I have to say I LOVE it! In the past, I have bought my miniature schnauzer, Mr. Bennett cheap doughnut dog beds for about $15. We have needed to replace them regularly  since they get smelly and then when I wash them they get very lumpy. Not so with this bed, though! The Pet Dreams bed is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and is very soft. It is 100% washable and dryable and will NOT get lumpy thanks to the clever way they have made each bumper removable. If you have a dog that likes to sleep in a little ball, the bumper-style beds will best suit him. But if you have a dog that is a leaner or a lounger, you can purchase a bumper bed from Pet Dreams and remove  one or two of the bumpers to create a corner-style bed. Furthermore, the middle cushion is removable if your dog likes to drag his bed to where you are. You could use this bumper bed in a crate or in any room. The size medium is very adequate for my 25 pound pupster. The bed is $60, which seems a steep price to pay, but I have purchased at least 4 doughnut beds for Bennett at $15 each. For this green option, I think it’s worth it!

Pet Dreams has many different colors to choose from as well as other bedding options including memory-foam beds, bed covers, toys, crates, and cratecovers. Check them out here!

When I placed the new bed next to Bennett’s old doughnut-lumpy bed, he immediately lay down in the Pet Dreams bed and didn’t move all night. It’s a winner.  Four paws out of four!

PrideBites Dog Toy GIVEAWAY

The guys over at PrideBites sent me two of their toys to review. These fun toys are made of foam, doubly stitched, and have two squeakers in them. They float and they are machine washable.

My schnauzer can tear up the average soft toy in about 2 minutes. When any toy claims to be indestructible, I tend to take their claim with a grain of salt. But our PrideBite has held up perfectly to tugging, fetching, tossing, catching, and kicking. I am impressed! The coolest part about PrideBites is that they have animals, collegiate team logs, OR you can turn your company’s logo into a dog toy (minimum order of 500)!

If you would like a free PrideBite (valued at $11.99). Just leave a comment below and the winner will be chosen at random next Saturday, February 18. I will message you for your address and send Snuggles the Cat toy in the mail to you!

Mutt Mops

The folks over at MuttMops sent me one of their toys to review and I love it! I was skeptical about it’s claim to be tough, but it has held up perfectly over the last few days in spite of my two dogs tugging, fetching, and tossing the thing. It’s soft on their mouth, and has a rubber ring in the middle to which the pieces of fleece area attached.  Furthermore it’s machine washable! For only $12–get two! It’s one of the best dog toys I’ve reviewed that I believe would hold up to vigorous chewers. Quite impressed… four paws! Check them out: muttmops.com

5/12 UPDATE: we have now been playing vigorously with the Mutt Mop for several months and it has shown NO signs of wear. It is one of Mr. Bennett’s favorite toys by far. Love, love, love.

Nylabone Dura Chew Ring

For a long time I have felt that if you have a major chewer for a dog, the only toy that will last is a Kong, but I have discovered the Nylabone Dura Chew Ring. It’s not indestructible, but it’s next to. The heaviest of chewers can gnaw on this ring for hours a day and it will still last for weeks, months and years! Because it is round, there are no corners or fabric stitching for your dog to focus on. It’s not an edible bone as it is made out of nylon, so I would use supervision when giving it to your pups to prevent digestion. Five inches in diameter and a half an inch thick. Purchasing it through Amazon.com will save you about 50% off the average pet store price.

Smarter Toys IQ Treat Ball

The sturdy plastic ball of the IQ Treat Ball is designed to release a treat or piece of kibble when your dog pushes it around. It has difficulty settings so that as your dog learns to dispense a treat you can increase the challenge for him. It comes in a three-inch size (suggested for small dogs) as well as a five-inch size (recommended for medium to large dogs). The toy slows down your dog’s eating and makes him work for his food. The five-inch ball can be difficult to open for smaller hands especially if there is dried dog drool involved (think glue!). A 1/2 cup of kibble is all that will fit in the larger size easily. It can be a bit noisy on hard surfaces, but it will keep your dog occupied for upwards of 20-40 minutes. If your dog is lazy, older, or just not playful they might not get into this toy. But for inquisitive pups and working breeds, this is just the thing to keep them busy for a long time! Works better on hard surfaces than carpet, but often gets tossed under a couch making the human the retriver! For only $8, though, I think the IQ Treat Ball is completely worth these slight drawbacks.

Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff with Rope

Yesterday we reviewed a poor ball/rope dog toy, so here is your positive alternative: the Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff with Rope. Durable, available in three sizes and three colors. Withstands rigorous chewing (even the attachment of the rope to the ball) for months and months. The material of the ball gives a little bit, providing protection to teeth and gums. Some have reported that the continents come off after extended use, but for most this toy will be around for years! Sure to keep your dog coming back for more! Varies in price from $6-$16.

Tennis Toss Dog Toy

I’m always on the look-out for inexpensive, durable dog toys, but unfortunately the Tennis Toss Dog Toy is not it. Looks like a great idea, you can tug, bounce, and throw it. BUT, within 5 minutes the plastic part had broken, the rope had popped out of the plastic piece and the tennis ball was tearing. Huge danger of the pups eating one of the sharp plastic pieces.  Save your moolah.

Zero paws.

Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff Tennis Ball

Most dog owners agree that regular tennis balls are not safe for tyour dog. They break easily, can be swallowed in large chunks, and usually once the dog cracks the ball, they have nothing more to do with it, making tennis balls not last very long if your dog is a chewer. So what’s the best alternative to tennis balls? Planet Dog Orbee-Tuff tennis balls! They float, they whistle when you throw them, and although they aren’t “indestructible”, they hold up to chewing MUCH better than normal tennis balls. They do come with a price tag, but most people feel that it is worth the extra money. The bright color (pink or yellow) are easily seen in low light situations and in tall grass. They do eventually fall apart which is why I give them four out of five stars.

But I still think this product is a winner!
