Pet Dreams Pet Bed Review

I received a pet bed in the bumper style from Pet Dreams and I have to say I LOVE it! In the past, I have bought my miniature schnauzer, Mr. Bennett cheap doughnut dog beds for about $15. We have needed to replace them regularly  since they get smelly and then when I wash them they get very lumpy. Not so with this bed, though! The Pet Dreams bed is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and is very soft. It is 100% washable and dryable and will NOT get lumpy thanks to the clever way they have made each bumper removable. If you have a dog that likes to sleep in a little ball, the bumper-style beds will best suit him. But if you have a dog that is a leaner or a lounger, you can purchase a bumper bed from Pet Dreams and remove  one or two of the bumpers to create a corner-style bed. Furthermore, the middle cushion is removable if your dog likes to drag his bed to where you are. You could use this bumper bed in a crate or in any room. The size medium is very adequate for my 25 pound pupster. The bed is $60, which seems a steep price to pay, but I have purchased at least 4 doughnut beds for Bennett at $15 each. For this green option, I think it’s worth it!

Pet Dreams has many different colors to choose from as well as other bedding options including memory-foam beds, bed covers, toys, crates, and cratecovers. Check them out here!

When I placed the new bed next to Bennett’s old doughnut-lumpy bed, he immediately lay down in the Pet Dreams bed and didn’t move all night. It’s a winner.  Four paws out of four!

DoggiWater–Vitamin Water for your Dog!

DoggiWater–Vitamin Water for your dog!
People are pretty educated these days about the dangers of some tap water and the benefits of drinking filtered water. But what about for your dog? DoggiWater is producing flavored vitamin water for your pooch! I was a bit skeptical if Mr. Bennett would drink it since it does NOT smell good to a human’s nose. I placed a bowl of DoggiWater next to a bowl of tap water and he has drained the vitamin water bowl multiple times, but not the tap water bowl!

Doggiwater consists of ultra purified water, real organic fruit, vegetable glycerin (natural sweeter), and citric acid. The benefits include: fresh breath, healthy teeth and gums, reduced tarter, shiny coat, reduced allergies, and a strong immune system. And since it’s purified, it reduces your dog’s intake of harmful chemicals like lead and chlorine.

They offer three flavors: Blueberry Bark, Strawberry Sit, and Raspberry Rollover. Mr. Bennett showed no preference to flavor. He weighs 20 pounds and it took him two days to finish one bottle (the bottle recommends 1-2 bottles per 5-10 pounds daily; he drank less than that).  He would probably need more if it was hot outside or if we were doing any major exercise besides an hour walk everyday.

It can be purchased in several premier retailers across the US and also online at www.doggiwater.com. At $1.69 per bottle, it’s more expensive than human filtered water, but check out the testimonials page on their website and you will see that Doggiewater has been reviewed by many prominent companies and has many dogs barking for more!

Green Monster Dog Coat

Mr. Bennett’s new coat from Green Monster:

The sweet ladies from Green Monster sent me a dog coat to review. They custom made it for Mr. Bennett and even made it in the colors I requested (yellow and gray to match our stroller! The reverse side has robots on it.  Fun!). I love that they make their coats to steer clear of “the stream”! They sent a fall-weight coat but have winter options that have heavier batting and soft flannel or wool exteriors. These are one-of-a-kind coats and are very reasonably priced ($20-40).

Here is the company’s doctrine:

  • Green Monster is a home-based, dog-centric company focused on creating functional and expressive apparel that remains true to the “dog-ness” in our best friends.
  • Green Monster believes that pet personality can be expressed in dogwear without losing functionality.  In fact, can be expressed more fully with improved design that allows better movement, comfort, and fit.
  • Green  Monster creates one-of-a-kind dogwear.  Each garment unique from the rest of the pack, just like our own dogs.
  • Our jackets are sleeveless, since dogs have legs instead of arms. Our jackets have high cut shoulder cavities, allowing for full range of motion.  Our patterns have adjusted the strap to stay out of the way – even for those leg-lifters.  And our fabrics are screened for comfort and wearability.  If it’s not going to feel good against our pets’ skin, Green Monster isn’t going to use it.
This company is just up-and-coming. They are hoping to raise $13,000 in the next 22 days. Check out their etsy store and website and if you like the coat,  then pledge to support them as they start really reaching the dog product world. In exchange for pledging–you get a coat!

C.E.T. Pet Chews from VetDepot.com

VetDepot.com is an online retailer of pet medications and supplies. They sent me a free bag of C.E.T. Petite Pet Chews For Dogs to review (click here to link to the product). I didn’t notice a difference in my dog’s breath or teeth in just a week (they informed me before the product was sent that results often take longer than a week) but I have to say that Mr. Bennett LOVES these treats. They shipped them out very, very quickly and although their prices aren’t as great as some other retailers, VetDepot’s prices are much cheaper than purchasing through your local veterinarian.  Next time you need pet meds of any kind, head over to VetDepot.com and check them out! Thanks VetDepot!

Luv & Emma’s Pet Towel

The folks over at Luv & Emma’s sent me a pet towel to review. We are heartily enjoying it. The 21 x 17 inch towel is neutral in color and hangs on any door knob. The microfiber material is very absorbient–enough for me to dry both my dogs when they’re wet, muddy, or snowy. I have used paper towels to dry their paws, and kept a smelly towel on the floor, but this towel makes a whole lot of sense to me. Grab a few for the pet-lovers in your life for Christmas! Order information can be found here.

IN Diet Supplements for Dogs

Sorry for the lack of posting lately–I had a baby on September 23rd! Our daughter is thriving and my husband and I are ecstatic to be parents. This is an amazing journey we are on!

Shortly before Emma Penelope was born,  the folks at IN Supplements sent me a sample bottle of their chicken flavored dog supplements. The dogs have been taking them for several weeks and they LOVE them! When I hear the word “supplement” I think of nasty-tasting vitamins. Not so with IN–the dogs can’t get enough. One chewy nugget for every 5 pounds of dog, so everyday Mr. Bennett got 4 and Princeton got 10. On busy days we just add them to their food, but usually we use the opportunity to practice basic commands. The dogs totally think they are treats. No crushing, mixing, disguising or shoving-down-the-throat is necessary!

Ingredients: lecithin, rice brand, oatmeal, flaxseed, white rice flour, chicken, cod liver oil, powdered cane molasses, dried eggs, glycerin, carrot, celery, beet, parsley, lettuce, watercress, spinach, wheat germ, calcium carbonate. Vitamin supplements: riboflavin, A D3, E, B2, B12.

Great for all breeds and all ages. Prices start at $14.95 for a two pound jar. Check out the testimonials on their site. They have several different supplement options for cats and dogs as well as hip and joint supplements–check them out!

Earthbath Natural Grooming Wipes

I was recently given a few samples of Earthbath’s products from my local natural pet food store (Tails on Taylor). I was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the Green Tea Leaf Grooming Wipes! I had given my dogs their monthly doseage of flea repellent which makes the whole house smell like deet. After letting it soak into their skin I have two options: 1) deal with the lingering scent 2) give them a full-out bath. I was planning on taking them to the beach today, so neither option was appealing! Then I remembered these wipes. I used one on each dog and it really and truly deodorized them!

Ingredient list from their website:

INGREDIENTS

Purified Water, Polysorbate 20 (a natural derivative of sorbitol), Green Tea Leaf Extract, Hawaiian Awapuhi Extract, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, and Benzoic Acid (a natural preservative).

NON-INGREDIENTS

Anything that would harm you, your pet, or the planet. This product contains no: parabens, phosphates, pthalates, DEA, synthetic dyes or perfumes. Any residue left behind is completely safe and will not harm your pet.

You can get a pack of 100 wipes on Amazon for $8.95–not to shabby if I do say so myself. Can be used on dogs, puppies, cats and kittens! If your pet tends to run thru mud, have dirty paws after every walk, smells like wet dog, needs their bottom wiped regularly, or if you’re like me and hate the lingering scent of deet, check these out! Note: grooming wipes are not a substitute for baths–eventually your pet will need the whole sha-bang.

Planet Dog Travel Bowl

I received the Planet Dog Travel Bowl as a gift but have admired them in the store on several occasions. I have the size large bowl which is about 7 1/2″ square at the bottom and holds about a half gallon of water (huge, really). It is very stable and collapses easily. At only $10, it’s not a bad deal if you hike with your dog, travel in the car often, or need water at a large dog park. I wish it had some sort of velcro attachment to keep it closed once you roll it up. It can be rolled quite small, but needs a rubber band or string to keep it compact.

RC Pet Products Martingale Training Collar Giveaway–CLOSED

I will be sending a size small XOXO training collar to one lucky reader! Simply leave a comment below and the winner will be chosen at random before midnight on Wednesday, August 3rd! I will e-mail the winner privately for their address. Tell your friends and “follow Doggie Product Review” to stay informed for more giveaways and all things doggie!

The folks over at RC Pet Products kindly sent me not one, but TWO items to review. The item for today’s post is their training collar, also known as a martingale collar. Here are its features:

  • 32 patterns available (this one is the 169 XOXO)
  • Soft quality webbing
  • Nickel plated hardware
  • Reflective label
  • Machine washable

A martingale collar has several wonderful aspects to it.

1) The leash attaches to a metal chain which, when pulled tightens the collar evenly around the dog’s neck, offering a swift clean, momentary correction.

2) Because the leash gets tighter when pressure is applied to the leash, a martingale is a truly life-saving option for dogs that have learned to slip out of normal collars or dogs that have long necks and small heads such as whippets and greyhounds. In fact most consider this type of collar to be the best collar for greyhounds.

3) It offers a correction that is a notch above a normal collar, but less intense than a choke chain.

4) Martingales are nice in that you can leave them on your dog at all times with no fear of danger such as is warranted by a chain or prong or head collar which you should not leave on your dog unattended or at a dog park.

5) The collar stays loose until a correction is given, which teaches your dog to walk on a loose leash.

I especially liked the one from RC Pet Products because it was easy to adjust once you slip it over the dog’s head. The material feels very, very nice and this pattern is gender neutral for males or females. The size small fits necks 7-9 inches in diameter and is 3/4″ in width. It fit my miniature schnauzer perfectly. Check out all the other supplies at rcpets.com–they’ve got TONS of dog products! Good luck, contestants!

The Dog Dung Vacuum

No, I have not reviewed this product but I saw it today in a catalog and was so repulsed I knew I had to share.

The Dog Dung Vacuum promises to eliminate (no pun intended) the need for stooping after the pup’s done pooping! They say it sucks up waste from concrete, grass, and even snow and deposits the waste into a 3lb-capacity bag.  Rechargable and chordless. For $99.95, I’ll stoop, thanks. :)
